About Us

2009
We started out as Green Fleet Messengers, a bicycle courier service. The slogan was "Send a bike, replace a car." This picture was from 2010, when our friends at Walk Bike Nashville asked to deliver a document to Mayor Karl Dean about Nashville being declared a Bicycle Friendly City.
2011
We rented a small garage in Edgehill Village and started offering guided bicycle tours of Nashville. We renovated the space and called it the "Green Fleet Hub." The next spring we got our first fleet of bikes, New Belgium Cruisers (thanks to our friend Thomas)!

2012
After the first season of bike tours, people in our neighborhood started asking us if we fixed bikes. As a result, we brought on our friend Richard who had lots of experience working in local shops. With his help, we renamed the Hub, "Green Fleet Bikes" and started fixing bikes and selling new bikes.
2013
Since the bike shop was growing, we decided to move the tours out of the shop to a location downtown. With the help of local artist Andee Rudloff (chicnair) and supports on Kickstarter, we created the "Bicycle Bus," a community mural that functioned as a mobile bicycle rental facility.
The Bicycle Bus was painted by over 75 volunteers. The finished project was originally located under the Pedestrian Bridge downtown and was home to our bike tours for two seasons.

2015
We finally outgrew our originally space and decided to move to a bigger location on Jefferson St. The mural on the side of our shop was done by North Nashville artist and muralist, DoughJoe and tells part of music history of Jefferson St.
This picture is from one of our Wednesday Night Slow Rides. Our friend Mary started the ride when we opened our shop in Edgehill and we have held it every week during the summer season since then.
2018
We opened Shelby Ave Bicycle Co. The shop is located at the corner of 17th and Shelby in the historic Simpkins Grocery Building. David and Janelle manage our store for us, and they are the proud parents of baby Cal. We finally have a shop baby! David even designed all of our logos for the new store.
